Everton Increase Bid for Davinson Sanchez Amidst Crystal Palace Rivalry
2 min readEverton have submitted an improved offer of €20 million (£16.8 million) to Galatasaray for defender Davinson Sanchez, following an initial bid of €18 million (£15.2 million) that was rejected, according to Ajansspor.
Galatasaray’s Stance and Crystal Palace Interest
Galatasaray is holding out for a €25 million (£21 million) offer for the former Tottenham centre-back. Crystal Palace is also monitoring the situation, with their defender Marc Guehi attracting attention from other clubs.
Everton’s Defensive Strategy
With Amadou Onana’s potential £50 million move to Aston Villa in progress, as reported by David Ornstein, Everton may not feel as urgent a need to bolster their defense. If Onana’s transfer is completed, Everton could retain players like Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, easing the pressure on their defensive lineup.
Davinson Sanchez’s Premier League Prospects
Sanchez, with over 200 Premier League appearances for Tottenham, has significant experience but did not fully live up to expectations from his Ajax days. At 28, he may feel he has something to prove in England after a stint in Turkey, where he made 32 appearances for Galatasaray last season.
While Sanchez has the potential to be a solid defender in the Premier League, he is unlikely to start over Branthwaite and James Tarkowski. Considering Galatasaray’s asking price exceeds £20 million, Everton might find it costly to acquire a defender who could end up as a backup. Despite Ben Godfrey’s move to Atalanta, Sean Dyche still has Michael Keane available, reducing the urgency to sign Sanchez.
