Following Crystal Palace’s heavy defeat against Brighton, Max Johnstone, the brother of Sam Johnstone, has sparked intrigue with a cryptic comment shared on X (previously known as Twitter).
The debate surrounding Johnstone and Dean Henderson was reignited after the 4-1 loss, with Henderson in goal for Palace. Questions were raised in August when Steve Parish spent £20m on Henderson despite Johnstone already being at Selhurst Park.
Henderson has since conceded 17 goals in seven Premier League appearances without keeping a clean sheet, leading to rumors of Johnstone’s discontent. While Sam Johnstone’s brother dismissed these rumors, he added a cryptic note: “Not sure where you heard that from, Sam and his family love it in London and have always been settled. There’s a lot more to the current situation 👀🧐”.
This ambiguous statement could imply various issues, whether related to the goalkeeping department, managerial situation, or boardroom matters, making speculation futile.
Despite Henderson not solely to blame for Palace’s struggles, there’s a call for Johnstone’s return to the starting XI. The Preston-born goalkeeper impressed earlier in the season with five clean sheets in 16 Premier League appearances before losing his place due to injury.
Given the defense’s inability to stem the flow of goals, Johnstone’s reinstatement seems warranted, especially considering his previous contributions and the team’s current defensive frailties.
