Crystal Palace’s January Transfer Prospects Questioned as Journalist Provides Insight
1 min readFootball journalist Alan Nixon recently offered a succinct response when queried about the likelihood of Crystal Palace making any January signings. Responding to a fan on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), Nixon revealed that both Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman are actively working to secure at least one signing this month, expressing their desire to be proactive in the transfer market.
Nixon stated, “Trying. Want to be active.”
However, Crystal Palace supporters might approach this news with skepticism, considering the limited January transfer activity at Selhurst Park in recent years. The last permanent signing in January was Naouirou Ahamada in 2023, who has seen minimal game time since joining. The loan arrival of Albert Sambi Lokonga also marked the extent of their acquisitions in the last transfer window.
With the current pressing need for reinforcements in positions like right-back and center-forward, even if Palace secures one signing this month, it may not be sufficient. Speculations link Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah and Blackburn Rovers’ Adam Wharton as potential targets for Freedman.
Despite Crystal Palace currently holding the 14th spot in the Premier League, the situation is less comfortable than it appears. Merely six points separate them from the relegation zone, and 17th-placed Luton, with a game in hand, could narrow the gap to just three points by winning. This precarious position emphasizes the urgency for Parish to actively pursue new signings in January to bolster the squad and ensure a more secure standing in the league.
