Crystal Palace’s £50m Bid for Key Target Rejected, Deal Off the Table
2 min readCrystal Palace faced disappointment as their bid for a top attacking target worth £50 million was turned down this month, signaling a setback in their January transfer plans.
The club seems determined to strengthen their attacking options, prioritizing wingers and strikers in the current transfer window. Despite initial speculations about Jean-Philippe Mateta’s departure, his recent impressive performance may lead to him staying at the club, especially considering the limited financial resources available for securing a replacement.
Recent reports indicate that Crystal Palace made a bid earlier this month for Eddie Nketiah, a talented Arsenal forward. The proposal involved a loan move to Selhurst Park until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy in the summer. Unfortunately for Palace, this bid was rejected, and with Arsenal facing challenges in securing a replacement, it appears unlikely that Nketiah will be joining Palace.
As a result, the anticipated outcome is that Mateta and Odsonne Edouard will likely remain as the frontmen for the rest of the season. However, Crystal Palace has not ruled out alternatives and may explore other striker options.
One such alternative is the proven Premier League scorer Danny Ings, who has recently been linked to Palace. While not as flashy as some other targets, Ings could be a valuable addition under the management of Roy Hodgson.
A more ambitious possibility involves Roberto Firmino, who is reportedly interested in returning to the Premier League from Saudi Arabia. This could provide an intriguing option for Crystal Palace, albeit with certain challenges.
Another name in the mix is Lawrence Shankland, one of Scotland’s rising forwards, drawing interest from various English and Scottish clubs. Everton and Burnley are reportedly among the clubs vying for Shankland’s signature, presenting Palace with another potential option to explore in their quest for attacking reinforcements.
