Crystal Palace Issues Three Warnings to Roy Hodgson Over Training Methods
2 min readCrystal Palace is grappling with both an injury crisis and a struggle for form, leading to increased scrutiny and criticism of manager Roy Hodgson. The 76-year-old is facing mounting pressure as fans express dissatisfaction with the team’s performances and results this season.
While there has been some understanding for the injury crisis that has sidelined key players like Sam Johnstone, Dean Henderson, Tyrick Mitchell, Cheick Doucoure, and Eberechi Eze, sympathy is waning as Hodgson’s training techniques come into question.
According to a recent report from The Standard, Hodgson’s staff issued three warnings within the last week regarding the workload imposed on winger Michael Olise. The report states, “There have been a whopping 30 injuries at Palace since Hodgson returned, and it is understood that medical staff had to remind Hodgson on three separate occasions just last week not to overwork Michael Olise, who is at risk of a recurring injury.”
In the team’s last game against Liverpool, Olise was benched and only brought on in the second half, a decision made out of concern for his fitness as he continues his comeback from a long-term injury.
As Hodgson’s tenure at Crystal Palace appears uncertain beyond the current season, questions arise about his short-term management methods. There is criticism that young players are not given opportunities, and there seems to be a lack of emphasis on setting up the club for future success.
Hodgson’s reliance on intense training methods has contributed to numerous muscle injuries within the squad. Particularly, concerns are raised about the well-being of young talents like Olise, emphasizing the need for the coaching staff to take additional precautions to prevent potential career-damaging injuries in the future.
