Hodgson Offers Updates on Doucouré and Eze Injuries

2 min read

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has provided insights into the injuries suffered by Cheick Doucouré and Ebere Eze during the recent match against Luton Town.

Discussing Doucouré’s injury, Hodgson revealed the severity, stating, “It’s bad. He’s snapped his Achilles tendon, and the recovery time is uncertain. It could extend to the end of the season, but we remain optimistic, considering his age and healing capacity.”

Highlighting the impact on the team, Hodgson expressed the challenge of losing Doucouré, especially given the limited cover in his position. He acknowledged the necessity to adapt to this setback and find alternatives.

Regarding Eze, Hodgson mentioned, “We await further information after he consults with the surgeon today. His ankle, affected by a ligament problem, was put in a boot earlier this week. While it’s a high ankle ligament issue, not as severe as a lower one, it’s still significant.”

Hodgson emphasized the uncertainty surrounding Eze’s return and clarified that Sunday’s game is unlikely. He dismissed the immediate need for surgery based on current information but acknowledged the blow of losing key players during crucial moments in matches.

Providing additional injury updates, Hodgson shared, “[James] Tomkins is in good shape, which is positive news. However, Rob Holding, who has impressed in training, faces a month-long absence due to a persistent ankle issue. Combined with injuries to Jes [Rak-Sakyi] and [Dean] Henderson, our defensive options are affected.”

Despite the challenges, Hodgson found a positive note in Michael Olise’s return, noting his first start and goal of the season. He cautioned against expecting too much too soon from Olise, emphasizing the need for a collective team effort to achieve success.

In conclusion, Hodgson acknowledged the injury woes but remained hopeful that the team, with collective effort, could navigate through challenges and regain momentum.
