Crystal Palace legend rave about summer signing

3 min read

For Crystal Palace fans, few players hold up better on the club’s pantheon of legends than Ian Wright. Wrighty made his name in the professional game with Palace¸ with his story well-known now by anyone who follows him.

A tremendously exciting footballer on his day, the player-turned-pundit retains that same infectious energy in his commentary and punditry. An enjoyable listen for sure, Palace fans will be excited to hear Wrighty talking up his old stomping ground – and in particular, a key summer signing.

The arrival of Michael Olise from Berkshire side Reading was seen in a similar vein to the Eberechi Eze signing. Exciting, but is he ready for the top flight?

So far, the answer appears to be a very significant yes. Palace fans have been blessed to have Olise, so much so that the young Frenchman has actually made it easier to forget about losing Eze to injury. At 19, his impact in the top flight has been incredible, with his latest performance in the 2-0 win against Manchester City a hugely positive moment.

He came on in the 85th minute, but he did play a huge role in setting up the second goal which sealed the game and secured all three major points. it was an incredible victory for Palace, and Wright was one of many Eagles absolutely delighted with their impact.

Having seen the side become rather dour and obstinate under Roy Hodgson, Vieira has done a fine job of turning things around and getting Palace playing forward as opposed to backwards. The latest victory was another huge moment for the coach, and his new signings are absolutely thriving.

A former teammate, then, was delighted for both Vieira and his latest wonderkid signing.

What did Ian Wright say about Michael Olise?

Speaking on Match of the Day, Wright was effusive in his praise for the result and the character. However, in his usual style, Wright could barely contain himself when he got to talking about Olise. He said of the performance: “Now they’ve got players who are ready to go forward.

“And Michael Olise – I can’t wait to see once he gets in the team!

“You thought they [Palace] had missed the opportunity but Olise has time to lay it back into Gallagher who finishes it off. Even if City hadn’t gone down to 10 men, Palace would probably still have done that to them. They were so much better.”

It was an exciting moment for the fans who attended the game, and for anyone watching back in South London. In what was a huge moment for both player and club, Olise stepped up and secured what might be one of the best wins of the Premier League era.

City are flying this year, and to go to their stadium and beat them so handily is a huge accomplishment for any side. For a team like Palace, in a major rebuilding transition and with so many untested young talents, the result will likely go down in modern history.
